Blloku (English: Block) is an upmarket area in Tirana, Albania widely known as an entertainment destination: boutiques, shops, restaurants, trendy bars, pubs, and cafes. Since the fall of communism in Albania, a dramatic growth of new developments has taken place, with many new and highly exclusive apartment buildings. This area is the playground for the young Albanian elite.

Traditions and Folk Costumes of Albania

There are more than 200 different varieties of  traditional clothing styles in all of Albania. Albania's recorded history of clothing goes back to classical times and is one of the factors that has differentiated this nation from other European countries, for many centuries.

Almost every cultural and geographical region in Albania has its own specific variety of costume that varies in detail, material, color, shape, or form. Albanian folk dress is often decorated with symbolic elements of Illyrian antique pagan origin, like suns, eagles, moons, stars, and fabrics are traditionally made by weaving clothes using looms. Some conservative old men and women mainly from the North wear traditional clothing every day. Older women from the South usually wear all-black outfits.

Tirana, Albania

Tirana (Albanian: Tiranë) is the capital and largest city of Albania, located in the western center of the country. It is surrounded by hills with the Dajti mountains in the east and overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance. Tirana is the center of cultural, economic and governmental activity in Albania. Approximatly 800,000, people live in Tirana, making it one of the largest cities on the Balkan peninsula.

Tirana dates back to Paleolithic times, with the oldest settlement located in the area of ​​the city known as Pellumbas. An ancient monument, the Tirana Mosaic is believed to have been part of an ancient Roman house from the 3rd century. In the 5th and 6th centuries, a Paleochristian basilica was built. Tirana was founded as a city in 1614 by Sulejman Pasha, even though the area has been continuously inhabited since antiquity.

Albanian Soccer Fans Celebrating

For the celebration of victory in the Euro 2016 Group A soccer match between Romania and Albania at the Grand Stade in Decines-­Charpieu, near Lyon, France, the Albanian capital of Tirana erupted in joy after the national team won the Group A match with Romania. Thousands of Albanians gathered in fan zones, lighting firecrackers, sounding car horns, shouting loudly and waving the national flag.
