Nyhav Old Port, Denmark

Nyhavn is a coastal entertainment and canal district of the 17th century in Copenhagen, Denmark. It stretches from Kongens Nytorv to the harbor front, just south of the Royal Playhouse and is bordered by colorful houses and bars, cafes and colorful restaurants from the 17th century and early 18th century. The canal houses many historic wooden boats, built by King Christian V from 1670 to 1673. Excavated by the Swedish war prisoners of the Dano-Swedish War 1658-1660. It is a gateway from the sea to the old town in Kongens Nytorv (King's Square), where the boats handled the cargo and fishing of the fishermen, was notorious for beer, sailors and prostitution.

The red Denmark flag with a white Scandinavian cross extends to the edges of the flag and the vertical part of the cross moves to the side of the hoist.
A banner with a white cross on red is attested by the kings of Denmark since the 14th century. A legend of origin with a considerable impact on the Danish national historiography that connects the introduction of the flag to the battle of Lyndanisse in 1219. The Nordic cross reflects the use as a maritime flag in the eighteenth century. The flag became popular as a national flag at the beginning of the 19th century. Its private use was banned in 1834, and again allowed in a regulation of 1854. The flag has the world record of being the oldest national flag used continuously at present.

Denmark ranked first in the United Nations World Happiness Report, 2013 and 2014 and 2016, and ranked third in the 2015 report. Denmark emerged in the 10th century as a seaworthy nation competent in the struggle for control of the Baltic Sea. Denmark, Sweden and Norway were governed together under the Union of Kalmar, established in 1397 and ending with the Swedish secession in 1523. Denmark and Norway remained under the same monarch until the external forces dissolved the union in 1814; Denmark to inherit the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland. In the 19th century there was a wave of nationalist movements, which were defeated in the Second Schleswig War of 1864. Denmark remained neutral during the First World War. In April 1940, however, a German invasion saw brief military skirmishes while the Danish resistance movement was active from 1943, until the German surrender in May 1945. An industrialized exporter of agricultural products in the second half of the 19th century, Denmark introduced labor market reforms in the early twentieth century that created the basis for the present welfare state model with a highly developed economy.
